POSITION SUMMARY

 

This Deputy Division Director I position is responsible for the overall assessment, planning, implementation, supervision, coordination, and evaluation of the Mecklenburg County Health Department’s Communicable Disease Control Program. Program activities include reportable disease investigations and outbreak control, disease surveillance/monitoring, rabies/zoonotic disease control, childcare nursing consultation/education/outbreak control, and regulatory monitoring of nursing services in Adult Day Health facilities.

 

Specific duties for this position include, but are not limited to, assessing work process methods and implementing best practices; coordinating and managing investigations/surveillance and legal control measure enforcement activities;  monitoring and submitting disease reporting and outbreak data; professional and  technical expertise and guidance to staff and leadership; providing performance management activities according to Mecklenburg County policies and procedures; representing the service area  in inter and extra-departmental committees, planning teams and community activities; providing data and reports to County executive leadership and elected officials; and networking and collaborating with North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) personnel,  multiple community agencies and partners. The Communicable Disease Deputy Division Director I assists with planning and implementing the Department’s overall response to events that threaten the health of the community. In the event of an outbreak or any unusual situation, this position would be required to be available 24/7 until the situation is resolved.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

·       Provides oversight and direction for implementation of programs/services
Manages strategic planning initiatives

·       Ensures Federal, state and local policy, rules and regulations are followed

·       Coordinates within the department across divisions.

·       Represents the division County-wide and to the Board of County Commissioners

·       Takes on legislative initiatives

·       Makes decisions on the day-to-day operations

·       Interprets policies

·       Services as a liaison, both internally and externally.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Five (5) years of public health or related experience with three (3) years supervisory experience

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university required. Master of Science in Nursing, Public Health or related field preferred

 

Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted? Yes

Licenses and Certifications:  Current unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in NC or SC (Nurse Licensure Compact).

Valid NC or SC driver’s license and the ability to obtain and maintain a County Operator Permit.
