JOB TYPE- Contract on a need basis

 

THE POSITION

The Harnett County Department of Public Health is currently recruiting for an Environmental Health Specialist to provide public health service for Harnett County residents under the authority and guidance of the Harnett County Board of Health.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

The Environmental Health Specialists duties include inspecting establishments that provide food or service to the public. These establishments include restaurants, food stands, meat markets, school cafeterias, nursing and rest homes as well as their kitchens, jails, hotels, bed and breakfasts homes, child cares, school buildings, camps, elderly nutrition sites, mobile food units and pushcarts, swimming pools and tattoo parlors. •Other duties include onsite evaluations of proposed sites for individual dwellings, subdivisions, mobile home parks, and any other areas of development that are not served by public sanitary sewer systems. The position is required upon authorization to issue improvement permits, authorization to construct systems, and operation permits. The position is also required to take water samples upon request and to evaluate existing wells for construction compliance.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Graduation from a four-year college or university with 30 semester of course work in the physical or biological sciences and two years of exposure in environmental health; or a four-year or Master's degree in environmental health from a program which is accredited by the National Accreditation Council for Environmental Health Curricula of the National Environmental Health Association; North Carolina Registered Environmental Health Specialist with one year of experience in environmental health.
