Description:This position performs professional environmental health work in the promotion of public healtheducation,surveillance, consultation, inspection, and enforcement of state, local, and federal environmental health lawsand regulations in the On-site Wastewater, Drinking Water Wells, Tattooing and Public Swimming Poolprograms.Primaryjobdutiesinclude:siteandsoilevaluationsofundevelopedpropertyforon-sitewastewatersystemsandwells;evaluationandinspectionofexistingon-sitewastewatersystemsanddrinkingwaterwells;issuance of on-site wastewater permits, drinking water well permits, tattoo permits, public swimming poolpermits;inspectionsofon-sitewastewatersysteminstallations,drinkingwaterwellinstallations,tattooartist,andpublic swimming pools.
Requirements:Graduation from a four-year college or university with 30 semester hours of course work in the physical orbiological sciences and two years of exposure in environmental health; OR a four-year or Master’s degreein environmental health from a program which is accredited by the National Accreditation Council forEnvironmentalHealthCurriculaoftheNationalEnvironmentalHealthAssociationandoneyearofexperience in environmental Health.
Applicants must be eligible to become registered as a RegisteredEnvironmentalHealthSpecialistorRegisteredEnvironmentalHealthInternwiththeNCStateBoardofRegisteredEnvironmentalHealthSpecialistExaminers.Note:Allhealthdepartmentemployees(withtheexceptionofindividualswithanaccommodationormedicalexemption)arerequiredtoreceiveanannualflu vaccine as a condition of employment. An appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of NC isrequiredand mustbe maintained.
Compensation:The hiring range for this position is $36,298 - $58,923. Halifax County provides a comprehensiveemployeebenefitspackage,includingmembershipintheN.C.LocalGovernmentEmployees’RetirementSystem.
