School Health COVID 19

Medical Office Assistant

 

This position involves assisting with clerical and sub-professional health services for school health nurses. Employee performs a variety of clerical and nursing tasks in recording and maintaining patient data and reports and provides information to individuals and families who are recipients of local health services. Duties include assisting school health nurses with standard nursing assignments and laboratory functions. Work is performed under the guidance and supervision of professional health personnel and evaluated constantly for satisfactory completion. Emphasis of work is assistance with COVID-19 lab and data processes.

 

·       Assist with data management and maintain school nurse tracking system.

·       Take request for COVID testing appointments, which includes obtaining some personal and medical history from patient; determining the eligibility  of patient as outlined by departmental policies and giving the patient the exact date and time of appointments.

·       Manage COVID hotline.

·       Provide information as directed by professional personnel to health services recipients, contacts patients by phone regarding test results, interviews, and overdue appointments.

·       Assist with appointment and consent document management related to administration of COVID vaccine. 

·       Assist school nursing staff with the management of COVID testing preparations, and packaging of collected swabs samples

·       Participate in Public Health Preparedness activities as deemed necessary by the Health Department.  Staffs and oversees emergency shelters if needed.  Participates in community Flu/COVID Clinics and other services as needed.  

 

Knowledge’s, Skills and Abilities:

·       Some knowledge of the principles and practices of patient care and techniques of practical nursing.

·       Some knowledge of common health and safety precautions in working in local health departments.

·       Ability to work with staff and patients, under supervision, as set up by departmental policies.

·       Ability to maintain clerical records and to compile reports from these records.

·       Ability to use sound judgement and empathy in dealing with patients.

·       Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

·       Computer software skills; Electronic Health Record Database, Microsoft Word, Microsoft

 

Required Minimum Training:

High school or General Educational Development diploma, completion of a one-year formal training course in medical office assisting at a community college or technical institute; or High school or General Educational Development diploma and a combination of one year of clerical and health/dental related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Additional Training/Experience:

Work experience related to governmental or medical offices. Additional computer training and experience with electronic health records useful.

 

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation:

None
