Work Schedule/Requirements: Generally Monday - Friday 8am -5pm, or as assigned; Occasional evening or weekend work may be required. 

Primary job function and duties:   This position is an advanced level of nursing supervision in the Medical Clinic, which has a variety, and complexity of programs that involves service personnel on varying levels and in multiple disciplines. As nursing supervisor, the employee provides the daily management of clinical services and program oversight. This includes administrative duties such as planning, organizing and managing daily operations, quality assurance, personnel management, and staff development.  This position is responsible for the supervision and evaluation of the Medical Clinic staff, and will coordinate with Administration on matters involving daily operations. Nursing supervision duties also include oversight of public health programs including policy and procedure and standing orders. As such, this position is accountable for assuring that all services are provided in accordance with federal, state and grant requirements and that staff work to their full scope of practice without exceeding that scope.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to:  planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating people and projects.  Will provide leadership for:  project development, budgeting, training, setting work standards, scheduling, reviewing work, counseling, disciplining and performing other personnel functions with review and approval of the Assistant Human Services Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

·        Education and Experience: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a B.S. in Nursing which includes aPublic Health Nursing rotation and two years of Public Health nursing experience

  • Licensure: A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the N. C. Board of Nursing.
  • Knowledge and Skills: application of nursing theory, practice, principles, and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs; considerable knowledge of available resources and organizations and the ability to coordinate these as needed; general knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to public health, including health disparities; ability to plan, coordinate, and oversee the work of others; ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and make decisions; ability to work in partnership with patients and with other service providers to elicit needed information and to maintain effective working relationships; ability to record accurately services rendered and to interpret and explainrecords, reports, and medical instructions; considerable knowledge of and ability to apply the principles and practices of public health; good communication skills, detailed documentation, and ability to access information.Adequate computer skills.
  • Physical demands: Standing (45% of time); walking (45%); Sitting (10%); lifting, 40-50 lbs; carrying, 20 lbs; pushing, <200 lbs; pulling, 45-50 lbs; pushing with assist, >200 lbs; climbing; stooping; balancing; kneeling. Potential environmental exposures: radiation, chemicals, infectious agents, fluid, needle/syringes, waste handling, airborne pathogens. Sight requirements: acuity, near and far; depth perception; color vision; field of vision. Hearing requirements: ordinary conversation (constantly) and other sounds (frequently).

·        Basic Supervisor/Management Skills –Must be able to be assess information and make independent decisions on assigned program areas.  Must be a positive team player and have the ability to multi-task and empower their staff to make decisions.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s in Public Health and graduation from an accredited nursing program and two years of professional nursing experience
  • 1-3 years’ experience in public sector program management
  • Professional work experience in local or state government including: budgeting, program development/implementation/analysis, and service delivery
  • Lab experience, including policy and procedure
  • Certifications/trainings:

1.     CPR and AED trainings

2.     Dispensing of Drugs by Public Health Nurses

3.     Family Planning Title X trainings

4.     E is for Epi

5.     SIDS Counseling

6.     ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800

Special Notes Concerning This Position:

·        Specific programs will include but are not limited to: Laboratory Management, On-call Rotation. This position is responsible for oversight of the clinic pharmacy. May include coordination or oversight of the following: Child Health, Communicable Disease, Maternal Health, Family Planning, and Immunization Programs, Care Management.
