Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

The Sexually Transmitted Infections (HIV/STD) Clinic provides medical examination, screening, evaluation,
and treatment to adults and adolescents, with a focus on sexually transmitted diseases (STD), HIV and
syphilis; provides STD/HIV education to encourage and promote prevention; provides referral for
immunizations, substance abuse, sexual abuse, mental health or other medical issues (hypertension, diabetes,
asthma, etc.) as needed: participates and facilitates research activities through collaboration with the University
of North Carolina (UNC) Division of Infectious Diseases and Duke Medical Center; reports all cases of
bacterial STD, HIV, syphilis, and other communicable diseases to the NC Division of Public Health.
The Adult Health Clinic provides consultation to the Refugee Health clinic re: communicable disease
screenings of newly arrived refugees to ensure that any communicable diseases of public health concern are
promptly identified and treated before they can spread to others in the community.
The Adult Health Clinic also provides screening and assessment for clients seen through the Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program

Description of Work:
The primary purpose of this position is to provide assessment, physical examination, education,
counseling and appropriate care to clients who present to the Adult Health (HIV/STD) clinic. The focus
of clinical services is on prevention and care of sex'Ually transmitted diseases, including HIV, and syphilis.


Must possess thorough knowledge of and skill in the application of principles and techniques employed in the field of medicin and public health, including communicable diseases and conditions and sexually transmitted diseases (HIV/STD); a thorough knowledge of community resources and organizations; the ability to plan, coordinatre, and manage a program which provides medical services to clients; the ability to deal tactfully with others; the ability to exercise good judgement in dealing with day-to-day activities and with potentially volatile situations; the ability to secure the cooperation of others; the ability to maintain an effective working relationship with others and to foster good working relationships among staff members; the ability to understand and use electronic based data and reporting systems (Patagonia); the ability to use computer systems such as Microsoft Word, and Excel; the ability to accurately record, enter and analyze data and interpret medical instruction, and understand patient records; the ability to be flexible and receptive to change in dealing with staff needs, agency needs, changing patient populations, changing program requirements and other community agencies.

Education and Experience Required:

Graduation from a Physician Assitant Program approved by the NC Board of Examiners and "approved to practice medical acts "based on education and experience by the Board of Medical Examiners; or licensed as a RN by the NC Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners, and "approved to practice medical acts" based on education and experience by the Joint Subcommittee; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
