  1. DESCRIPTION OF WORK:The primary purpose of this grant funded position will be to provide ambulatory health care to clients who need Maternal Health, Family Planning, STD, HIV, Immunizations, or Child Health Services at the Iredell County Health Department and in the Mobile Health Unit at various locations throughout the community.  As indicated, the Physician Extender (PE) will obtain complete health and psychosocial histories and records findings; performs complete physical examinations; order, perform and interpret routine laboratory tests; prescribe, order, and administer medications and medical devices according to statutory and agency guidelines; develop health maintenance plans, including health education, disease prevention and anticipatory guidance to clients/families. The Physician Extender will additionally work interdependently with other members of the health care team (both in and out of the health department) to improve the quality of health for clinic patients and the community as a whole.

 

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 

  • Provide a wide range of services not limited to preventative care, maternal health & family planning services, immunizations, STD testing, vaccinations, lab services, screenings, physicals, health education, and referral services throughout our underserved communities.
  • Performs complete physical examinations and obtains and/or reviews a complete health, psychosocial, obstetric/gynecologic and sexual history and documents appropriately based on established criteria.
  • Manages and treats problems common to the low risk pregnancy
  • Performs walk in physicals for work, DOT, college, & sports.
  • Maintains and reviews all patient records to comply with required standards. 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required Minimum Training:Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program.Additional Training/Experience:  Two years of experience in the area of assignment. Certification to perform DOT physicals will be provided after employment.

Equivalent Training and Experience:  No training and/or experience may be substituted as being equivalent to the formal training.    

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation:  "Approval to practice medical acts" based on education and experience by the N.C. Board of Medical Examiners.               

WORK SCHEDULE:

This is a part time position, working 18-24 hours per week, and primary work hours are Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position may be required to work at either the Statesville or Mooresville office locations. This position may be required to work some early mornings, evenings and weekends. During communicable disease outbreaks, disasters or special clinics this position may be assigned as needed to work before 8:00 a.m. after 5:00 p.m. or on weekends.

HOURLY SALARY:Will be based on years of experience.
