We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Produce Prescription Program Coordinator to join our team and make a positive impact on the health of families in Swain and Macon counties.
Position Overview: The Produce Prescription Program Coordinator will play a crucial role in co-planning, implementing, and overseeing the collaborative Produce Rx project, designed to deliver fresh, locally grown, healthy food boxes to 100 families per week for 26 weeks. The program aims to enhance access to nutritious foods and promote healthy lifestyles among families in our community. The Coordinator will also contribute to organizing various program components, including monthly in-person gatherings with live cooking demonstrations and children’s activities, program evaluations, household budgeting support, farmer engagement and support, and collaboration with our project aggregator, Darnell Farms and the rest of the Produce Rx Planning Team.
Responsibilities:

Collaborate with the Swain/Macon Produce Rx planning team to co-develop and oversee program components, strategies, and evaluation criteria and protocol.

Coordinate the delivery of fresh, locally grown food boxes to 100 families per week for 26 weeks.

Serve as a primary point of contact for program participants and partner agencies.

Organize and coordinate monthly in-person gatherings for participants, including live cooking demonstrations, children’s activities, and other family resources, ensuring engaging and informative sessions.

Coordinate the purchasing of monthly cooking materials and equipment for program participants, and oversee the weekly development of content-specific recipes for inclusion in every food box.

Assist in conducting program evaluations, gathering feedback, and making recommendations for improvements.

Oversee household budgeting support to program participants to help them make healthier food choices and increase household wealth.

Engage with local farmers to ensure the successful sourcing of fresh produce for the program.

Collaborate with Darnell Farms, our project aggregator, to ensure smooth operations and efficient delivery.

Oversee the overall operations and financial management of the project, including budget tracking and reporting.

Participate in monthly planning team meetings to contribute to program development, service delivery, and evaluation.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Social Work, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience in project coordination, community engagement, or public health programming.

Strong organizational and communication skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and engage with community stakeholders.

Knowledge of local agriculture and food systems is a plus.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive and related tools, and data management tools.

Residency in Western North Carolina, with a preference for residents of Swain and Macon Counties.
Terms and Compensation:

This is a temporary part-time position (up to 20 hours/week).

Compensation: $25/hour.

The position is grant funded and will be active from October 2023 to July 2023.

There is potential for the position to become permanent if additional funding becomes available.

This position is largely remote, but will require regular in-person attendance at monthly gatherings and other activities and events.
