INTERN SUMMARY:

 

The Public Health Educator Intern plans, implements and provides health education services directly to the citizens of Cumberland County.

This intern implements grant deliverables, represents the Cumberland County at community partnership meetings, and/or health fairs or other community engagement activities including but not limited to educational visual exhibits, workshops, and displaying posters. 

This intern is vital in collecting health and community data to be used in planning public health and public health educational programs.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The duties for this intern include, but are not limited to:

  • Plan and/or prepare communication campaign addressing COVID-19 prevention and vaccination for populations at higher risk, underserved, and disproportionately affected in collaboration with Cumberland County Public Information Office.
  • Participate in quarterly meetings with Healthier Together regional leads.
  • Complete training in selected evidence-based health promotion programming.
  • Administer organization equity plan for CCDPH.
  • Coordinate Equity Advisory Council consisting of members from historically marginalized populations (HMPs) that exist in Cumberland County and seek guidance from the Council on internal and external operations in support of equity.
  • Assist Regional Tobacco Control Manager in work plan with culturally appropriate policy, systems and environmental strategies and activities improve health equity.
  • Co-facilitate meetings, discussions, and training with CCDPH staff regarding Health Equity.
  • Promote knowledge sharing on diversity, equity, and inclusion; fosters and seeks out learning and sharing of knowledge related to equity.
  • Implement outreach activities with veterans, including street outreach with veterans who are homeless.
  • Link individuals to Veterans Services to obtain advice on benefits, assistance with filing and tracking claims, and education & training. 
  • Identify and link veterans who are homeless who are homeless to additional wrap around services (housing, employment, food, etc.)
  • Participate in Veteran's Council meetings, as requested.
  • Coordinate with other Veteran Organizations as necessary. This includes Disabled Veterans of American, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, VAMC and others. 

Knowledge and skills: 

  •  Individuals should be able to work well independently and as a member of a team. 
  • Individuals should be able to provide services that are culturally sensitive and considerate of health literacy.
  • Individuals should be familiar with local resources to serve veterans and the homeless population. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

Currently pursuing a master's level degree in PUblic Health, Healthcare Administration, or equivalent related degree.
