Description: The person in the position provides direct services for participants of the Special Supplement Nutrition Program for Woman Infants and Children (WIC). Responsibilities include: Nutrition services, breastfeed support/breastfeed assessments for the Halifax Co WIC program. This is achieved by conducting nutrition and/or breastfeed assessments, reviewing client data, monitoring client on going condition/response to care, providing nutrition education, completing food prescriptions, completing referrals to health care and public assistance programs. Position also functions in collaboration with other Health dept. / local health care  providers by identifying client needs, develop plan of care and recording all communications to provide high quality services to participants in the WIC program. Work may include other related assignments as determined by WIC program director or Health Director.


Requirements: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a B.S. in Nursing which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation and one year of Public Health Nursing experience; OR Master’s in Public Health and graduation from a school of professional nursing and one year of professional nursing experience; OR graduation from a school of professional nursing and two years of professional nursing experience including one year of Public Health Nursing experience; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina and an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of N.C. is also required. All health department employees (with the exception of individuals with an accommodation or medical exemption) are required to get an annual flu shot vaccine as part of condition of employment.

Compensation:    The hiring range for this position is $44,279 - $56,066. Halifax County provides a comprehensive employee benefits package, including membership in the N.C. Local Government Employees’ Retirement System.
