JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
JOB TITLE: Advanced Practice Provider II (per diem)
SALARY: $50.00 per hour
FRINGE BENEFITS: Contract benefits available for purchase
TYPE POSITION: Per diem up to 40 hours per week
LOCATION: Burlington, NC
CLOSING DATE: open until filled
 
JOB PURPOSE: Advanced practice provider (APP) of medical care in the following public health clinics: Maternal Health Clinic, Women's Health Clinic, STI Clinic, Child Health Clinic.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maternity Clinic providing prenatal, postpartum and primary medical care both in the routine setting as well as Centering Pregnancy setting
• Women’s Health/Family Planning clinic- providing preventive screenings, well-woman, contraceptive counseling, gynecological care and LARC procedures
• Child Health Clinic providing well child care and access to care appointments, no sick care
• Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) Clinic providing care to males and females, adolescents and adults
• Specific duties in the above clinic areas include:
o obtaining pertinent patient history
o performing indicated physical examination
o ordering necessary diagnostic and screening tests and interpreting results
o formulating an assessment and plan based upon available data; documentation of findings, impression, and plan in electronic medical records
o prescription of birth control methods
o insertion/removal of FDA approved LARC methods
o writing, labeling, and dispensing prescriptions as necessary
o providing patient education
o arranging referrals as needed
o consulting with collaborating physician as needed
o providing medical consultation within scope of practice to public health nurses in Women's Health, Maternity, Child Health, and STI

EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION: This is a temporary contract position. Selected candidate will not be an employee of Alamance County; he or she will be employed by the North Carolina Alliance of Public Health Agencies (NCAPHA) and contracted to work with Alamance County Health Department.
 
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of techniques of interviewing, medical and relevant history taking, principles and practices of general medicine and disease states as they relate to the area of work; thorough knowledge of health appraisal tools, laboratory tests and findings, thorough knowledge and ability to plan a regimen of care based on assessment and findings; considerable knowledge of available resources and appropriate referral methods. Skills in performing clinical functions. Ability to examine patients and detect abnormalities; ability to record accurately and completely all information necessary, to evaluate and plan care; ability to communicate orally; to teach and counsel individuals, families and groups in areas of health maintenance, preventive medicine, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, to gain the confidence of patients and families and work effectively with them.
 
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the North Carolina Medical Board or approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and the North Carolina Medical Board and one year of experience as an APP.
 
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: License to practice as a Physician Assistant by N.C. Board of Medical Examiners or a license to practice as a registered nurse and nurse practitioner by the N.C. Board of Nursing and approval by the N.C. Medical Board and the N.C. Board of Nursing to practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: More than 2 years of APP practice; Child Health/Pediatric Experience as an APP; high risk OB experience; Centering Pregnancy experience including Centering Pregnancy basic facilitation training; fluent in both Spanish and English, both oral and written; ability to independently perform Nexplanon and IUD insertions/removals
