Job Description:

New Hanover County is seeking a temporary employee who will work to build and advance internal equity within public health and HHS while also partnering and communicating with the community around equitable access and delivery of COVID-19 vaccine to higher risk, underserved, and disproportionately affected population groups.  This position will work closely with the county’s Office of Diversity and Equity and public health staff, to achieve the program’s goals.  Duties will include the following.

o   Establishes processes to ensure equity integration into local public health services and resources through annual training, internal workgroup creation and leadership, assessment of organizational culture, development of an organizational equity plan.

o   Implement a communications and messaging campaign addressing COVID-19 prevention and vaccination for higher risk, underserved, and disproportionately affected population groups.

o   Explores, develops, and fosters relationships with new and existing community partners and stakeholders representing diverse/underserved populations within the county.

o   Identifies and coordinates community groups to promote and ensure equity of COVID related information throughout the county through events, workshops, presentations and materials.

o   Performs community outreach and public relations duties by visiting community groups and organizations and delivering presentations on COVID.

o   Participates in planning and implementing community activities through committees involving other agencies.

o   Assists with the preparation and compilation of reports and related documents detailing department programs and activities and as mandated by County, Federal, and State guidelines.

Hours are flexible in order to achieve the program’s goals.  Must have availability for nights or weekends to support community outreach activities, as needed.

Must have minimum 1 year of experience working in a community service role, preferably performing community outreach activities.  Knowledge of public health, the New Hanover County area and it’s community partners is a plus.

Must have NC driver’s license and good driving record, sufficient to drive a county vehicle in accordance with county standards.  Must be willing to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 within 30 days of starting and comply with NHC’s policy on COVID-19 testing until full vaccination status has been confirmed.
